What is the Average Retainer Fee?

Our retainers generally range from $5,000 to $10,000 for contested divorces. Our attorneys decide on the amount of the retainer during the initial consultation after considering the issues, for example whether or not custody is likely to be contested. The amount and complexity of the assets may also affect the amount of the retainer. Keep in mind that a retainer at Harris Divorce & Family Law is refundable. If it turns out that the case can be completed for less fees than the initial retainer, we refund any unused portion. On the other hand, if the case continues after the retainer is exhausted, the client will be responsible for the additional fees.
